Can MoreRoom delete something important?
MoreRoom never removes anything on its own. You choose each item, it goes to the Trash first, and you can undo. Items that may hold something you care about are labelled “Review first”, and items marked “Your data” can’t be removed from MoreRoom at all.
Why does MoreRoom need Full Disk Access?
macOS hides some folders — Mail, Messages, Photos, Desktop, Documents, Downloads and other apps’ data — from every app unless you allow it. With Full Disk Access, MoreRoom can measure them; it never uploads or changes your files. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access, or scan without it: protected folders are then skipped.
I deleted files, but my free space didn’t change. Why?
Items in the Trash still take space until you empty it. An app may also keep deleted files open: MoreRoom shows this “ghost space” and which app to quit. Time Machine local snapshots can hold deleted data for a while, too.
Why are MoreRoom’s numbers different from Finder’s?
Finder counts purgeable space — caches and snapshots macOS can delete on its own — as available. MoreRoom shows it separately, measures what files really take on disk and explains the rest of System Data. Like Finder, it uses decimal units: 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes.
How do I undo or restore something I removed?
Press ⌘Z or click Undo in the message that confirms the removal. Earlier removals are in History, in the sidebar: click Restore. Items removed by their own tool, marked “Permanent”, can’t be restored.
What’s the difference between Free and Pro?
Free scans your whole Mac, explains everything, includes Storage Weather, the widget, alerts and ghost space, and lets you remove items and uninstall apps one at a time. Pro frees up space in one go: the Collector, “Add All Safe Items”, goal mode, project hibernation and whole cloud drives at once.
How do I activate my licence key?
In MoreRoom, choose MoreRoom › Settings, open the Licence tab and click Enter Licence Key… (or click any PRO badge). Paste the key from your email — it starts with MR- — and click Activate. The Mac needs to be online for this.
I lost my licence key. What can I do?
Enter your purchase email on the licence recovery page and we email you a new key within minutes. It replaces the old key, and Macs that are already activated keep working.
How many Macs can I use, and how do I move to a new Mac?
One licence works on up to 3 Macs. Activate your key on the new Mac. If MoreRoom says the licence is already used on the maximum number of Macs, open Settings › Licence on a Mac you no longer use and click Deactivate This Mac, or contact us and we’ll free a place.
How do I cancel Pro Yearly?
At any time, from the link in your receipt email or by writing to us. Pro stays active until the end of the year you paid for; then MoreRoom goes back to Free and nothing on your Mac is lost.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Within 30 days of a purchase or a yearly renewal, for any reason: write to us from the email you used and we refund the full amount. Refunds usually appear within 5 to 10 business days.
Does MoreRoom upload my files?
No. Scans run entirely on your Mac, and file names, paths and contents never leave it. MoreRoom only goes online to activate and renew a Pro licence, to download signed rule updates and to check for new versions.
How do I add the MoreRoom widget to my desktop?
Open MoreRoom once. Then Control-click the desktop, choose Edit Widgets…, search for MoreRoom and drag the small or medium widget onto your desktop.
How do I uninstall MoreRoom completely?
If you use Pro, first click Deactivate This Mac in Settings › Licence. Quit MoreRoom, drag it from Applications to the Trash, then delete the few files it keeps in your Library, listed step by step in the article.
Getting started
Install MoreRoom on your Mac
Download MoreRoom, drag it to Applications and open it — and what to do if macOS says MoreRoom can’t be opened or is damaged.
Grant Full Disk Access to MoreRoom
Why MoreRoom asks for Full Disk Access, how to turn it on in System Settings step by step, and what is skipped if you scan without it.
Scan your Mac, your home folder or any folder
Start a scan from the home screen or the sidebar, scan external drives, rescan, cancel, scan automatically at launch and exclude folders.
Explore your disk: map, rings, list and inspector
Switch between the map, rings and list, zoom into folders, read the inspector, search all files and preview them with Quick Look.

MoreRoom system requirements
MoreRoom runs on macOS 15 Sequoia or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. What else it needs, and which disks and languages it supports.
Freeing up space

How MoreRoom removes items: one at a time or in one go with the Collector, always to the Trash first, with Undo (⌘Z) and History.
Free Up Space and goal mode
Use Free Up Space to see everything MoreRoom recognises, add all safe items at once, or let goal mode pick the safest way to free 10 to 100 GB.
Understand System Data with MoreRoom
How MoreRoom’s System Data screen splits your startup disk into your files, hidden areas and macOS volumes, and why Finder and Settings disagree.
Clean up your Downloads folder
Downloads Cleanup finds installers of apps you already installed, archives you already extracted and files downloaded twice.
Hibernate dormant projects, and wake them up
Projects frees the rebuildable folders of projects you haven’t touched for 30 days — node_modules, build folders, venvs — and restores them on demand.
Uninstall apps with everything they left behind
Remove an app with its caches, settings, containers and logs in one step you can undo — including App Store apps, running apps and duplicate copies.
Keep in the Cloud: free space without deleting cloud files
Remove local copies of files already safe in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive. Nothing is deleted; files still uploading are kept.
Ghost space: when deleted files still take space
Deleted 50 GB and nothing changed? An app may still hold those files open. MoreRoom shows how much, which app, and gets it back by quitting it.
Is my Mac ready for the next macOS update?
MoreRoom’s home screen tells you whether there’s room for a major macOS update and how much headroom macOS has, and frees exactly what’s missing.

Troubleshooting
A scan seems slow or stuck
Why a MoreRoom scan can take longer than usual — huge folders, network or slow external drives, privacy prompts — and what to do about it.
Why MoreRoom’s numbers differ from Finder and System Settings
Purgeable space, local snapshots, APFS clones, size on disk vs logical size, hidden folders and GB vs GiB: why each tool shows a different number.
macOS keeps asking for permission, or Full Disk Access stays off
Fix repeated macOS permission prompts and a Full Disk Access switch that seems ignored: duplicate copies, stale entries, and quitting and reopening.
I removed files, but my free space didn’t come back
Why free space doesn’t change after a cleanup — the Trash, ghost space held by open apps, local snapshots, purgeable space — and how to get it back.
An item can’t be removed, or was skipped
Why the Move to Trash button is disabled for some items, or a removal fails: your data, items managed by apps or macOS, administrator rights, apps in use.
The MoreRoom widget shows no data or is out of date
Fix a MoreRoom widget that says “Open MoreRoom to start”, shows old numbers or no “can be freed” figure.
MoreRoom alerts don’t appear
Not getting MoreRoom’s alerts? Check the switch in MoreRoom, macOS notification settings, Focus, and whether MoreRoom is running.
Restore something you removed with MoreRoom
Put items back with Undo (⌘Z), History or Finder’s Put Back — and what can’t be restored: emptied Trash, items removed by their tool.

Start MoreRoom from scratch, or remove it with every file it keeps: settings, history, widget data, licence, login item and permissions.
