In short

  • Open MoreRoom once first, so the widget has data to show.
  • Control-click (right-click) the desktop, choose Edit Widgets…, search for MoreRoom, then drag the small or medium widget onto the desktop.
  • The widget shows free space, the trend and what you can free up. Click it to open Storage Weather.

How to add the MoreRoom widget

  1. Open MoreRoom once Open MoreRoom from Applications. It takes its first measurement right away and shares it with the widget.

What the widget shows

  • Small: available space and how full the disk is, with the forecast (“Full in ~n days” or “Stable”).
  • Medium: the same, plus the free space over the last 30 days, what the last scan found that can be freed, and the folder that grew the most this week (“+size this week”).

Click the widget to open Storage Weather in MoreRoom.

How fresh is it?

MoreRoom updates the widget after each measurement — every 30 minutes while MoreRoom is running — and only when something it shows has changed. To keep it up to date with the window closed, turn on Open at login, in the menu bar (see Menu bar and open at login).

The “can be freed” figure comes from your last scan: it appears after your first scan and changes when you scan again.

Move or remove it

  • To move it, drag it to another place on the desktop.
  • To remove it, Control-click the widget and choose Remove Widget.
  • On the desktop, macOS may dim widgets when windows are in front: that’s a macOS setting, in System Settings › Desktop & Dock › Widgets.

The widget says “Open MoreRoom to start”

It has no data yet. Open MoreRoom once. If it still says so, see The widget shows no data.
