In short
- MoreRoom checks for a new version once a day and installs it automatically, by default.
- To check now, choose MoreRoom › Check for Updates…, or click Check Now in Settings › General › Updates.
- Its rules — the catalogue of known space hogs — update on their own once a day, separately from the app. Release notes are on the changelog.
How to check for updates
- Use the menu In MoreRoom, choose MoreRoom › Check for Updates….
- Install If a new version is available, a window shows what’s new. Click to install; MoreRoom restarts on the new version.
- Or use Settings Open MoreRoom › Settings… › General. Under Updates, the current version is shown next to Check Now.
Automatic updates
MoreRoom downloaded from moreroom.app keeps itself up to date. In MoreRoom › Settings… › General, the Updates section has:
- Check for updates automatically — once a day. On by default.
- Download and install updates automatically — installs new versions in the background. On by default.
- MoreRoom version with a Check Now button.
Every update is signed: MoreRoom only installs an update whose signature matches the key built into the app.
If MoreRoom can’t update itself, make sure it runs from the Applications folder, not from the disk image, and that your account can write to Applications. You can always download the latest version and replace the app in Applications: your settings and licence are kept.
What’s new
The release notes of each version are on the changelog, also available as a feed. The update window shows them too.
Rule updates
The rules that recognise space hogs and give them safety labels are updated separately: MoreRoom checks once a day for a newer catalogue, signed by MoreRoom, and uses it from the next scan. You don’t need to do anything — new rules arrive even between app versions.
