The short answer
Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
What is it?
Cursor keeps per-project state in ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage, in hashed folders: open tabs, extension data and AI chat and composer history for that project. Only folders for projects not opened in 90 days are considered here.
Per-folder state, including AI chat history, for folders not opened in 90 days. Not recoverable once deleted.
What happens if you delete it?
No. Reopening the project starts with a clean state, and its chat history is gone. Your code is not affected.
How to remove it properly
Quit Cursor, then move the old folders to the Trash in Finder (Go › Go to Folder… ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/workspaceStorage). Each folder’s workspace.json names its project.
Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.
- MoreRoom only suggests items unused for 90 days or more.
Before you delete it
Keep folders for projects whose AI chat history you may want to look back at.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
