The short answer

Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.

What is it?

~/.vscode/extensions contains every extension installed in VS Code, one folder per extension version. Language extensions can bundle large language servers or toolchains, and old versions sometimes remain after updates. Typically a few hundred MB to several GB.

Installed extensions, some with large language servers. Uninstall unused ones from VS Code; they can be reinstalled.

What happens if you delete it?

Uninstalled extensions can be installed again from the Extensions view; their settings in settings.json remain. Deleting the whole folder removes all extensions at once.

How to remove it properly

In VS Code, open the Extensions view, then uninstall the extensions you don’t use. From Terminal, code --list-extensions and code --uninstall-extension <id> do the same.

From the app itself: VS Code > Extensions: uninstall the ones you don't use.

Before you delete it

Extensions installed from a .vsix file rather than the Marketplace need that file to be installed again.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
