The short answer

Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.

What is it?

Update packages downloaded by GoogleUpdater, the background service that keeps Chrome and other Google apps up to date. Packages for updates that are already installed are not needed again.

What happens if you delete it?

The updater downloads new packages when the next update arrives. Installed apps are unaffected.

How to remove it properly

Move ~/Library/Application Support/Google/GoogleUpdater/crx_cache to the Trash in Finder (Go › Go to Folder…).

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

Before you delete it

Remove only the cache, not GoogleUpdater itself, unless you are uninstalling Google software: without it Chrome stops updating.

How MoreRoom helps
