The short answer

Yes. Rebuilt or re-downloaded automatically when needed.

What is it?

Chrome’s disk cache for every profile: images, scripts and other files from websites you visit, stored in ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome. Chrome limits its size on its own, typically to a few hundred MB to a few GB.

Web cache of every Chrome profile. Rebuilt as you browse; tabs, passwords and history are elsewhere.

What happens if you delete it?

Rebuilt as you browse; pages load a little slower the first time. Bookmarks, passwords, history, cookies and open tabs are stored in your profile, not here, so you stay signed in.

How to remove it properly

In Chrome, open Settings › Privacy and security › Delete browsing data, select only “Cached images and files” and choose a time range. Or quit Chrome and move the folder to the Trash.

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item, shows its real size and when it was last used, and labels it “Safe to remove”. In the free version you can move it to the Trash in one click, with Undo; Pro collects every safe item at once.
