The short answer

Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.

What is it?

Lightweight proxy copies of your footage that DaVinci Resolve generates for smooth editing, saved in ProxyMedia folders at the proxy location set in Resolve. Long projects shot in 4K or RAW can take tens of GB of proxies.

Lightweight copies of your footage for smooth editing. Regenerating them takes time; originals are untouched.

What happens if you delete it?

Resolve can generate them again from the originals, which can take hours on large projects. Original footage and your edits are untouched.

How to remove it properly

In Resolve’s Media Pool, select clips and clear their proxy media from the context menu, or quit Resolve and move the ProxyMedia folders of finished projects to the Trash.

Quit the app that uses it, then move it to the Trash. Empty the Trash when you’re sure.

  • MoreRoom only suggests items unused for 30 days or more.

Before you delete it

If the originals are offline or on a drive you no longer have, the proxies may be the only media you can still edit with.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
