The short answer

Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.

What is it?

The ComfyUI desktop app keeps its models in ~/Documents/ComfyUI/models, in subfolders by type: checkpoints, LoRAs, VAEs, text encoders, upscalers and more. Image and video models are large, typically 2–25 GB each, so this folder often reaches hundreds of GB.

Checkpoints, LoRAs and other models, by type. Most can be downloaded again but some are hard to find: offload rather than delete.

What happens if you delete it?

Not automatically. Models from public sources can be downloaded again by hand, but some come from pages that have since been removed or changed, and your workflows break until each missing file is back in place.

How to remove it properly

Quit ComfyUI, then move individual model files you no longer use to the Trash. To keep them without using space on the Mac, move them to an external drive and point ComfyUI to that location with its extra_model_paths.yaml settings.

Better moved to an external drive than deleted.

Before you delete it

LoRAs and fine-tunes you trained yourself exist only here unless you backed them up.

How MoreRoom helps

MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
