The short answer
Usually, after a check. Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
What is it?
uv downloads standalone Python builds when a project or command asks for a version you do not have, and keeps them in ~/.local/share/uv/python, one folder per version and platform. Older patch releases stay installed until you remove them.
Python interpreters downloaded by uv. The newest is kept; uv downloads a removed version again when a project asks for it.
What happens if you delete it?
uv downloads a removed version again the next time a project requests it. Virtual environments created with that interpreter stop working until you recreate them, for example with uv sync or uv venv.
How to remove it properly
Run uv python list --only-installed to see what is installed, then uv python uninstall <version> for each version you no longer need. This is uv’s own command and deletes permanently.
Use the tool’s official command: uv python uninstall <version>
- MoreRoom keeps the newest 1 and suggests the older ones.
Before you delete it
Check .python-version files and requires-python in your projects before removing a version they rely on.
How MoreRoom helps
MoreRoom recognises this item and labels it “Review first”: it shows what’s inside, its size and last use, so you can decide. Nothing is removed without your say, and everything goes to the Trash first, with Undo.
When the tool is installed, MoreRoom runs its official command for you (uv python uninstall <version>) instead of deleting files — and tells you that this step can’t be undone.
