## What is it?

Godot 4 stores imported versions of a project’s assets and editor state in a `.godot` folder next to `project.godot`. It is generated, and Godot recommends keeping it out of version control. Only folders in projects untouched for 30 days are considered.

## What happens if you delete it?

Godot re-imports every asset when the project is next opened, which can take a while for large projects. Scenes, scripts and assets are not affected.

## How to remove it properly

Close the project in Godot, then move its `.godot` folder to the Trash in Finder.

## Before you delete it

Editor state such as open scenes and some per-project editor settings resets.
