# Can I delete Conda environments in miniconda3/envs?

- URL: https://moreroom.app/folders/conda-envs-miniconda
- Item: Conda environments (Miniconda)
- Location: `~/miniconda3/envs` (items inside)
- Verdict: Review first — Might hold something you care about. Look inside before removing it.
- Comes back on its own: yes
- Official command: `conda env remove -p <path>`

## What is it?

Each folder in `~/miniconda3/envs` is one Miniconda environment you created, with its own Python and every package installed in it. Data-science environments commonly take 1 to 5 GB each, and environments made for a single project or tutorial are easy to forget. The `base` environment is not stored here.

## What happens if you delete it?

A removed environment does not come back on its own. You can recreate it from an `environment.yml` file with `conda env create -f environment.yml`; packages installed by hand without a record are lost.

## How to remove it properly

Run `conda env list` to see your environments, export any you might need with `conda env export -n <name> > environment.yml`, then remove the others with `conda env remove -n <name>`. This is conda’s own command and deletes permanently; deactivate the environment first.

## Before you delete it

Check for Jupyter kernels, IDE interpreters or scripts that point to the environment before removing it.
